Although we have gym space this March for our Spring 2015 players, we have partnered with Grand Slam in Malvern to offer three one hour clinics for baseball players ages 8 to 12 on Saturdays in March and April.
The clinics will focus on hitting (March 21), throwing & pitching (March 28), and fielding & position play (April 4).
Little League International has changed the League Age determination date for baseball to December 31 beginning in Spring 2015. Our local league will permit a choice in play for those affected (birthdates between May 1 and December 31 in 2005 and later years). Please review this document for detailed information or contact

Little League's Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Today, more than 30,000 children participate in more than 900 Challenger Divisions worldwide. Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age, and can be played as tee ball games, coach pitch, player pitch, or a combination of the three.
Our neighboring Little League, Berwyn Paoli, has a thriving Little League Challenger Division program that is designed to provide athletic and social activity for mentally and physically disabled youth in an athletic environment that is structured to their abilities and is offering this program to Devon Strafford Little League children who may benefit.
In 2014, they had over 30 special needs youth enrolled in the program during their spring baseball season. This has allowed them to field three Berwyn Paoli Angels teams in our District’s Challenger Division, which consists of teams from 16 local area little leagues. The Challenger Baseball season runs from late March until the middle of June with practices on Thursday evenings and games on Sunday afternoons.
If you have a son or daughter between the ages of 5 and 21 that is interested in this program, please contact Gary Brooks or Bill Kashatus at the contact information below.
Players League Age 10, 11 and 12 are eligible to play in the Majors Baseball Division of DSLL. All players are drafted by the Majors team managers, and the draft is conducted by the League Director and Player Agent.
League Age 12’s automatically qualify for this division, but must attend one mandatory tryout for skill rating and drafting.
League Age 11’s and 10’s must attend one tryout in order to be considered eligible to be drafter into Majors – those who do not are automatically assigned to the Minors Division (AAA).
There are two slots for tryouts scheduled - Friday 2/20 from 6pm to 9pm and Sunday 2/22 from 2pm to 6pm. Tryouts will be held at Grand Slam in Malvern. No appointment is necessary - first come first served in groups.
A reminder will be emailed to all Majors eligible families after registration closes on 1/18.
This is an exciting time to be part of our growing softball program!
I'm writing to tell you about some changes we've made to the softball program for this upcoming spring.
For the past several years, our league has focused on play within our league only. Recently we've begun playing more games outside our league, both in tournament play and the fall, and we've learned a lot about what we need to do to be more competitive. Primarily, that involves having the girls play at the appropriate levels, those by which other area teams are playing.
The league age cutoff date of December 31 will fall in line with Little League rules, however if a player is playing at a higher level than her friends and would like to continue to play with her classmates, she may opt to play down. Conversely, if a player wants to play up, a special request can be made by contacting email@example.com
In addition to realigning the divisions, girls at the minors level will be placed on teams through a draft. This falls in line with how team placement is handled at the majors level, as well as in baseball, starting at age 7.
In other good news, DSLL is looking forward to another session of winter softball clinics beginning in January. Last year was the first time these clinics were offered and we had such a great turnout we've added time and space to accommodate the girls this winter.
